S.M. The Ballad is a South-Korean ballad group and a special unit formed by S.M. Entertainment in 2010. So far, the unit has released 2 mini albums.
In 2010, S.M. The Ballad began with 4 members - SHINee's Jonghyun, TRAX's Jay, Super Junior's Kyuhyun and Jinho. Xia from TVXQ was originally in the member line-up but 2 months prior to the mini-album release, Xia had left the company due to the contract controversy. In the end, he was replaced with Cho Jinho, a new S.M. trainee then.
S.M. The Ballad then debuted on November 28, 2010 on SBS Inkigayo with the single "Miss You", with their mini-album then released on the 29th.
On February 3, 2014, S.M. Entertainment announced that TVXQ's Changmin, Super Junior's Yesung, Girls' Generation's Taeyeon, F(x)'s Krystal, EXO's Chen, Super Junior-M's Zhoumi and Zhang Liyin gathered to release a new album together with original member Jonghyun.
